Sport
2008 has seen many fine sporting achievements by Shelford students. Playing within the Girls Sport Victoria association, young female athletes are provided with the opportunity to compete in a unique environment. While participation and the discovery of new and exciting sports and activities is still central to the philosophy of GSV, students have the chance to compete against the finest athletes in Victorian schools while experiencing state-of-the-art facilities and professionally run competitions.
As is the case every year, Shelford students have made the most of each and every opportunity with which they are presented. In 2008, Shelford was represented in 16 different sports by over 50 teams and while the Sport department encourages all students to contribute to at least one sport per term, the majority of participants were involved in multiple activities across the year.
The level of participation and the achievements of Shelford athletes have been very impressive. Sporting highlights in 2008 have included:

Annual Sports Dinner
The showcase for the sporting achievements of Shelford athletes is the Annual Sports Dinner. Staff and students were treated to a presentation by Diana Patterson who, out of a long list of career highlights, was most notably the first woman to lead an Antarctic research expedition. Diana spoke of the challenges that she faced and provided all attendees with a perspective on her leadership style and her philosophy on leading an active lifestyle.
