Shelford's 11th Principal
A Letter from the Chair of the Board of Governors
Dear Members of the Shelford Community,
On behalf of the Shelford Board of Governors, I am delighted to announce that Ms Katrina Brennan has been appointed as the 11th Principal of Shelford Girls’ Grammar.
After a comprehensive search, the selection panel met with an impressive field of suitably qualified and experienced educational leaders. The Board unanimously agreed that Ms Brennan’s breadth of experience, knowledge and passion for engaging and empowering young girls and women, make her an ideal cultural fit for Shelford.
Ms Brennan has significant experience in educational leadership. In July last year, she was appointed to the role of Director of Staff at Shelford. From 2012 to July 2018 she was Deputy Principal and Head of Senior School at Fintona Girls’ School. She has been Director of Middle School and Head of House in previous appointments. Prior to entering the education profession as a teacher of English and Commerce, Ms Brennan trained and worked as a lawyer. Ms Brennan has a combined degree in Law and Arts, a Diploma of Education and a Masters of Educational Management. She is a member of a number of professional associations including the Alliance of Girls’ Schools and Leadership Exchange. She is a member of the organising committee for the Association of Heads of Independent Schools, 2020 Leading and Learning Conference.
Ms Brennan’s style of collaborative leadership and passion for evidence-based and data-driven personalised education supports her advocacy of academic excellence for all. Her strong personal educational philosophy centres on the development and success of the students within her care.
Ms Brennan will commence her role as Principal of Shelford Girls’ Grammar in Term 1 2020.
This announcement highlights the reality that our Principal of the past 10 years, Polly Flanagan retires at the end of 2019. Shelford has flourished under her leadership and there will be opportunities to recognise Polly’s achievements at the end of this year. Ms Brennan will continue in her role as Director of Staff for the remainder of this year.
The Board of Governors of Shelford is confident that the transition will ensure a continuing focus on the culture and vision of our School in 2020 and beyond.
