From the Principal
Your daughter will shine in a school environment that is "Girl-Centred" where the teaching and learning of the students is informed by the latest research into the ways that girls develop, interact and learn best.
Founded in 1898 by Miss Emily Dixon, Shelford has educated generations of young women who have gone on to achieve wonderful things.
Polly Flanagan is the tenth Principal of Shelford. She has taught in coeducational and single-sex schools across all sectors and is convinced that girls perform better in girls’ schools.
“At Shelford we encourage our girls to be the best that they can be, prepared to take intellectual risks in a safe environment, where deep thinking and respect for others is valued. We expect our students to become active and informed citizens committed to life-long learning, with the ability to build quality relationships and the determination to make a positive contribution to society.”
Visitors to Shelford comment on the happy, articulate students who are proud of their school, and we encourage you to join us on a school tour where students will be your guides. This will give you the opportunity to see the School in Action and to get a sense of the quality of the relationships that underpin everything that we do. Families are also warmly encouraged to arrange a personal tour at a time that suits them.
Tours of the coeducational ELC are led by the Head of Early Learning or the Head of Junior School. Families will learn first-hand about the stimulating educational programs delivered by expert educators that include specialist lessons for our youngest children, and extended hours childcare for the convenience of families.
Shelford has a proud academic tradition, outstanding performing and visual arts departments and students enjoy a wide selection of sporting opportunities and subject choices.
We are confident that your child will thrive at Shelford and we look forward to welcoming new families to the School.
