Music Co-Curricular Program
The aim of the Music Department is to develop an interest in and a love of music through classroom programs, individual tuition and participation in the co-curricular program.
The Shelford Music Faculty provides student performance opportunities at music concerts, Chapel services, assemblies, competitions, AMEB examinations, School functions and Open Days, as well as performances in the local community.
Recitals and music concerts are held every term. Recitals are designed to give 'beginner' music students performance experience in an informal setting. The music concerts are an opportunity for the more experienced performer to refine her craft in a public setting.
The Junior School and Senior School present a musical in alternate years. This allows for more flexibility to pursue other creative projects, e.g. making a school CD or commissioned projects.
House Performing Arts
Senior students participate in the annual House Performing Arts ( HPA) – creating a performance piece on a given theme. Students are independently responsible for all aspects of the production – music, dance, drama, script, lighting, scenery and stage design. In the Junior School, students participate in a similar, biennial HPA program.
